The Gateway Hotel & Conference Center at Iowa State University is upping our game! We are looking to add a Pastry Chef to our already dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be able to create a broad variety of baked goods from petit fours to signature desserts, with the ability to design wedding cakes.

 Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver the GATEway service standards
  • Responsible for the production of all sweet & savory baked items for The Iowa Stater Restaurant and Catering Services.
  • Assists Sous Chef with daily production functions as needed.
  • Plan, prepare and decorate specialty desserts and pastry items.
  • Meet weekly with Executive Chef to discuss creative ideas and any Catering Services needs.
  • Plan, design and execute wedding cakes, as requested.
  • Set preferred suppliers list for specialty ingredients.
  • Order all necessary supplies for production needs.
  • Assists Culinary Team in daily and special event production where need and schedule permits.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Minimum 2 years kitchen experience
  • High school diploma or GED, or Culinary education.
  • Able to work some nights and weekends
  • Must be able to squat, lift, and push at least 55 lbs.
  • Ability to obtain ServeSafe certification within 6-months of hire
