Job Purpose:

The Catering Manager will handle all planning and coordination of events for the hotel. Act as a first point of contact for urgent calls, emails and messages. Enthusiastically assist guests as necessary to exceed guest expectations.

Additionally, this role will generate revenue for the hotel by maximizing food and beverage revenue potential by up-selling additional event/amenities, build additional revenue, and build strong customer relations to exceed client & guest expectations.

General Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for event planning for all conferences and meetings and ensure the success of those events
  • Sell & market to wedding and social groups to generate leads through direct selling and maximize the potential
  • Ensures that all wedding and social events are successful & exceed guest expectations
  • Take inquiries, generate leads, place bookings, sell benefits & distribute correct information to appropriate parties
  • Maintain good relations with clients, local community, wedding planners and wedding vendors
  • Ensure cancelled bookings are cleared from our event management system promptly to ensure that venue use is maximized
  • Communicate group details/changes to all hotel departments via the banquet event order, coordinating customer's needs with other property business and activities to ensure customer's expectations are exceeded and the property operates efficiently
  • Deal with all internal & external clients in a professional & courteous manner at all times, taking into account the wide & diverse range of business activities at Gateway Hotel & Conference Center
  • Answer incoming calls
  • File all contracts and banquet event orders on a daily, weekly and monthly basis

Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Reconcile bills with the banquet event orders daily and ensure that billing procedures are followed in accordance with company best practices
  • Work within Gateway's best practices to ensure minimal risks through credit references & contracting of business
  • Contribute to the weekly Banquet Event Order (BEO)meeting to ensure successful events and good communication


Four-year degree preferred in Business, Event Management, plus 1-year experience in sales/catering office or related field. Position requires computer literacy & the ability use Microsoft Office Suite. From time to time you may be asked to carry out duties outside the normal sphere of work as reasonably requested by Management. One must have strong hospitality skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
